The Social Experiments: The Choice is a horror-comedy interactive livestream experience that was broadcast on May 28, 2023 on Ranboo's Twitch channel[4][5]. It is episode 3 and the finale of The Social Experiments.
Plot[]
The episode starts with a drone flythrough of an abandoned mall where various masked Showfall Media employees are walking around. Ranboo appears, and he attempts to communicate with the camera. Hetch gets his attention, and speaks to him through an information board. He says he has managed to take control of the facility and explains to Ranboo that his whole experience has been broadcast to an audience. Ranboo tries to take his mask off, but Hetch says the facility will be destroyed if he does.
He instructs him to ignore the camera following him and to get to the server room to shut down the facility. Ranboo finds a set from Episode 2 and asks if the other people died, and Hetch confirms this. He then finds an exit and suggests leaving and contacting the police, but Hetch stops him and tells him everyone is still alive, causing Ranboo to change his mind.
Ranboo continues to explore the mall, and a monster covered in wires approaches a window and scares him as he walks past. He finds the locked server room, and Hetch directs him to find a way in. He finds an office full of masked employees all frozen in place, and Hetch instructs him to locate a keycard and a USB drive. He also finds four pieces of coloured paper with different 4-digit codes printed on them.
He uses the keycard to enter the server room and finds a computer. He plugs the USB drive in and now needs an access code. Hetch runs an audience poll to choose the code, but Ranboo ignores this and chooses the yellow code. This code is incorrect and triggers an alert raising the security level and causing Hetch to lose contact with Ranboo.
Ranboo finds people live-streaming from abandoned fast food outlets and tries to get their attention, but they all ignore him. The last person is Charlie, and Ranboo gets his attention and convinces him to leave. The pair walk past a makeshift memorial shrine for The Puzzler, and Charlie starts remembering the other cast members. They see Sneeg being killed by the wire monster and then flee from a horde of Showfall employees and end up finding more Episode 2 sets. They go down a corridor, find a barricaded exit door, and then find Hetch badly wounded. Hetch gives Ranboo directions to the power button and instructs him to tell the world that "the Hetch did this".
Ranboo explores and finds the cabin set, and Charlie's memories start flooding back, and he is distraught. The wire monster appears and attacks Charlie, who uses his dying breath to remind Ranboo of the button. Ranboo outruns a hoard of employees and presses the button, shutting all of them off. Ranboo walks past the employees towards the exit, turns to the camera and bows, but is grabbed by Hetch.
Ranboo wakes up, now trapped in a spiked metal box and tied up crucifixion-style. Hetch says, "Congratulations Ranboo, you made it to the end!" Ranboo is confused about how Hetch is still alive and starts panicking. Hetch explains that The Founder told him to run experiments to decide the cast of the shows and reveals he was behind everything. Ranboo says he doesn't want to join the cast and asks to be let go.
Hetch asks the audience to vote on Ranboo's fate, explaining the choice for him to live will mean he will get rescripted and continue being part of the cast forever, and the alternative will lead to an entertaining end for the show. The audience votes for him to live, and Hetch is pleased. Ranboo begs to be let go, desperate for another option. Hetch asks if Ranboo has any last words for the audience, and Ranboo screams "Let me die!" After hearing his pleas for death, the audience vote rapidly swings to "die". When the timer ends, Hetch tells Ranboo the result of the poll. The box closes on his head, killing him instantly, and the credits roll.

Trivia[]
- The episode poster was made by Kertoir[6].
- Charlie actually live-streamed on his Twitch channel as part of the production[7].
- In the Showfall office, there were episode plans for days 1 and 2 depicted on separate whiteboards. There was also a whiteboard for day 3 hidden in the doorway and only visible for a split second[8]:1:09:57.
- Ranboo's bow at the end of the chase scene is a visual homage to The Truman Show, as some themes throughout the episodes were inspired by it[8]:18:57.
- Squiggles is missing for most of the episode, only returning for the ending scene.
- Ranboo explained that the mask flashing during the final scene was Showfall returning his memories of before the show, and that this will be made clearer in the Founder's Cut[8]:26:26.
- The final audience vote for Ranboo's fate was 55% Die, 45% Live[5]:43:58. The vote for Live reached a peak of 91% before swinging to Die[5]:40:37.
- If the audience had voted for him to live, Showfall Media employees would have untied him, forced a mask onto him and then dragged him away kicking and screaming as the credits rolled[8]:8:31.
- After the credits, the footage from A Message From The Founder plays.
- The alarm you hear throughout the episode is actually the real fire alarm that was set off from the smoke machines. Ranboo says that some of the crew had to run outside and stop the fire department from coming in.
